Finding the Best Market Areas in London

I like to check out the shopping scene no matter where I travel, so I scoped out several London markets even before coming here. I found out that this city has a great fashion and food scene, and tons of market areas where you can explore it. So, let's discuss my favorites.

Borough Market - Southwark 

If you're near the Tower of London and you want a taste of the trendiest street food, go to Borough Market in Southwark. This is where you'll find all the food. If it's hip and hot in London, it's here.

I stopped here to eat and soak up the scenery and it was amazing. This is a busy area with tons of local flavor, figuratively and literally, and it's beautiful. Make sure you stop to look at the breathtaking cathedral here and try some goat milk ice cream before you leave. It's a local London favorite.

Spitalfields - Whitechapel 

One of the oldest markets in London is in one of the oldest neighborhoods in London. Spitalfields has been a busy market in the Whitechapel neighborhood for centuries and today, it's an amazing spot to try cuisine from around the world and sip on local London beer. 

If not for an infamous former resident of this neighborhood, the Spitalfields market would be the highlight of Whitechapel. But since these are the same streets that Jack the Ripper once walked, the market takes a bit of a back seat.

Camden Market - Camden Lock

If you want to try good food while you do tons of shopping, I suggest you get to Camden Lock and visit the incomparable Camden Market. You can literally find everything here. Food, fashion, fascinating looking people, it's all here. This is a colorful, lively area of London that I can't recommend highly enough.

London's Other Best Markets

Leadenhall Market is also very close to the Tower of London and Whitechapel. I did not get a chance to go here, but lots of people say this is one of London's best spots. It's an indoor market with Victorian design and it's very beautiful. 

If you happen to go to Greenwich to stand on the prime meridian line at coordinates 0, 0 or if you're in the area to look at English naval history, swing into the Greenwich market. 

No matter where you go in London, you will find a market nearby. So look around, see all the adventures around you and go have fun exploring this amazing, historic city.
